In a major new initiative for Australian television, the Australian Film Commission has announced that revenue generated by its management of copyright from projects produced under the Commercial Television Production Fund (CTPF), will be re-invested in a new Producer Package Program and a Producer Attachment Scheme for television producers.
The Commercial Television Production Fund (CTPF) was established by the Federal Government in 1995-96 as a three-year program, administered by the Australian Film Commission. Thirty-eight CTPF projects were funded through to 1999.
The Producer Package Program will assist the creation of new television programs by supporting independent producers engaged in the development of Australian adult drama, children's drama and documentary projects. The Program will provide advances for amounts between $20,000 and $50,000 to assist experienced producers develop a slate of two or more television projects.
The Producer Attachment Scheme will provide opportunities for emerging producers to enhance their script development and creative management skills by observing and being involved in the script development process of a television drama. To be eligible for the Producer Attachment Scheme the applicant must have produced at least one drama or documentary project and have already negotiated their attachment with the experienced television producer who will supervise the attachment.
"The recent National Production Survey released by the AFC highlighted the downturn in Australian television production. The AFC is firmly committed to the view that development is a critical issue for the on-going success of our film and television industry and I believe that the Producer Package Program and the Producer Attachment Scheme for television will make a significant contribution in this area," said Kim Dalton, Chief Executive of the AFC.
There will be two application rounds for both initiatives in the current financial year. The closing dates for these rounds are 31 March 2000 and 31 May 2000. |
